Glass Castle: Blog Post 2

The three most important characters in the book right now are Jeannette who is telling the story, her dad who she talks about a lot, and her mom. It is sort of hard to detect who the most important characters are because it is a memoir and she is reminiscing and telling stories from the past.

Jeannette is the one telling the story. She is the daughter of two scrappy parents who we have identified as the other two most important characters. We do not know a lot about her, other than she is part of a traveling family and has lived all over the place and seen a lot. She describes her family as loud, like in the beginning when she was in the hospital she to continued to "shh" them because she was embarrassed. But she also appreciates the independence that moving around and living in a unreliable family. She grew up independent.

Her mom sounds like a literate person because she enjoys the finer things in life like fine art. But on the other hand, she can be found rummaging through the trash in the streets. She talks about her father as a educated and smart man but he is and alcoholic so he is unpredictable. She quotes her grandmother describing him as a "flea-bitten drunk". He is also assertive, yet outgoing. She quotes her father saying to her mother, "I didn't propose to you," Dad said. "I told you I was going to marry you."
